From Borders Cafe to Bestselling Romance:

Did you know Sally's journey to becoming a published author got a major push while she was working at a Borders cafe? She stumbled upon a meeting of the Smoky Mountain Romance Writers chapter, and they encouraged her to start writing, even handing her a copy of How to Write a Romance Novel. 

While she has always loved writing—she even co-created a passing-notes soap opera called "Note World" with her best friend in junior high—she really dedicated herself to her craft when she decided to stay home with her two kids after teaching Spanish for eight years. 

Her first book, The Happy Hour Choir, was published in 2015! She loves writing romance because she believes it's the ultimate genre of hope where love always triumphs.

Little Miss Petty and Poetic Justice:

Her newest standalone book, Little Miss Petty, is an absolute delight. The inspiration actually came from Sally's own frustration with the world and wishing that "karma" would work just a little bit faster for people who misbehave.

The story follows 39-year-old private investigator Stella Stark, who loses her house, job, and partner after catching him cheating. Stella ends up teaming up with two other women (including a spicy older lady named Havisham who was jilted at the altar) to start a business seeking "poetic justice" and logical consequences on behalf of others. The fun complication? Stella is hired to get revenge on a client's soon-to-be ex-husband, but she finds that he is just too darn nice!

Fun fact: I saw my name in the dedication and had to ask! The "Lorelei" mentioned in the book is actually Sally's daughter, who helped her brainstorm hilarious, non-damaging petty revenge ideas (like glitter bombs and cricket noisemakers!) during a car ride down to Florida.

What to Expect in Her Books:

If you pick up a Sally Kilpatrick book, she promises her readers these staples:

• Humor: She admits she simply couldn't write a purely serious book if she tried, and her signature southern humor shines through in all her stories.

• Beta Heroes: You won't find barking, bossy alphas here! Sally loves writing beta heroes who truly see their partners, care about their needs, and are supportive.

• Low Heat Level: Her books range from closed-door to having perhaps one tastefully done, purposeful spice scene without any graphic purple prose.

Fun Facts About Sally:

I love asking our authors unique questions, and Sally had me laughing so hard in the Lair!

• Her morning routine: She admits she mostly just grunts until she gets her morning coffee served in her Dollywood "Cup of Ambition" mug.

• Her furry assistants: She has two rescue cats: Blix (a black bobtail) and Rocket (a muted tortoiseshell) who even made a cameo during our chat!

• Weirdest thing she owns: She owns a set of little penguin figurines that she hilariously positions in her house like they are traveling all the way from Antarctica to visit her Christmas nativity scene.

• Hidden Talents & Hobbies: She is an avid run-walker and admits she is obsessed with taking random house tours when she travels.

• Bucket List: Now that she and her husband have moved to California, she plans to write a screenplay, and she also dreams of staying in an overwater bungalow in Tahiti.

• Drink of choice: She needs coffee in the morning, and loves an English Breakfast or herbal tea in the afternoon.
